I am a proud daddy to three wonderful kids and the lucky husband of my beautiful wife. Yes, I caught a real life Tinkerbell! The three kiddos kinda limit our activities, but when we get a chance we love to travel and get out of the house. My wife is Lisa the ADMIN and our 3 kiddos are Tyler 12, Riley 6 and Emma 4. Tyler was diagnosed with PDD-NOS 2 years ago and he is an amazing step son!

My name is Lisa Pembleton and I am a 37 year old wife and a mother to 3 beautiful kiddos. I live in Basehor, Kansas, am married to the most wonderful guy and am so lucky to have found my soul mate and best friend! My family is everything to me and I love spending all of my time with them. If I could freeze time right now, I would! This is a perfect time in my life and I am thankful everyday for my husband, children, family and great friends!

I am a very laid back person and treasure every day as it comes. We love to travel and I am constantly planning our next trip. Disney World... here we come again in the Fall of 2009... 9 Days of park hopping ... FREE DINING! ... A Disney Suite...Can't Wait!!

Right now I am a work at home Mommy! It is very exciting that I will be able to spend more time with my kiddos while they are still young. I already feel like I have missed so much and I will never be able to turn back the clock and get these childhood years back. So, I took the plunge in May of 2008 and quit teaching for awhile... OK... maybe for a LONG while. ;-) I currently work from home as a Walt Disney World Vacation Specialist and for ETS scoring international and state assessments online from my home computer. I am a Disney Vacation Planner for Off To Neverland Travels! Booking Disney travel vacations for family and friends is going to be my "fun job" since I LOVE EVERYTHING DISNEY! Now, I will get to help families and children create magical family vacation memories! How fun is that!?!

For the past 13 years I was a teacher in the Piper USD #203 Unified School District. I taught 3rd grade for 5 years, 1st grade for 2 years, 2nd grade for a year and Kindergarten for the last 6 years. I love teaching and my students make my heart smile each day, but I am excited to be able to stay home with my kiddos! I'm a VERY lucky girl to be able to have the best of both worlds!

I have 3 children, Tyler 12, Riley 6 and Emma 4. Riley is a 6 year old Kindergartner that is reading at a 4th grade level and is the popular jock in his class. Emma is my 4 year old social butterfly. She is everyone's friend and has few issues at this time with academics and friendships. And then I have Tyler.... my Love Bug, my Heart, and the best cuddler in the world! Tyler was diagnosed with PDD-NOS about 2 years ago. He has/had ALL of the Asperger symptoms except that he hasn't always had a high vocabulary. Because Tyler struggled with vocabulary and hearing early in life, they diagnosed him under the umbrella of PDD-NOS, but his struggles and treatments are pretty much that of a child with Asperger syndrome.

I will share more as we go, but I would LOVE to learn more about ALL of you!

The forum is a great idea!
I'm a homeschooling mom of 3: My middlest is Tallie, my Aspie, and she turns 12 next month. We've seen her make great strides in those 12 years and are on the lookout for more opportunities where she can make friends and work on her social & coping skills. She loves to draw, esp. cartoon style illustrations, make up stories, use the computer and loves all things SONIC! (as in hedgehog)
Looking forward to participating & hearing from others!

Hello, I'm Leah a stay at home mother of 4 my oldest is 9 (Andrew), then theres Summer (5), Sammi (3) will be 4 in May, and Ace (7months). My almost 4 year old Sammi was thought by her neurologist to have PDD, but was diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder NOS with poss. OCD and Social Phobia after a very unpleasent evaluation. I have a gut feeling as a parent that the diagnosis is not correct, as they looked at her for no more than 5 min before rattling off that she was not on the spectrum. I'm very stressed and looking for answers. I'm just stuck on where to go from here.

Oh my... that does not sound like a good diagnosis at all and I would get a second or ever third opinion. My son Tyler was also tossed around and 5 minute diagnosed for about 3 years. I sat on the waiting list of the waiting list for Children's Mercy when I finally had a melt down and finally just started begging them to refer me to someone... ANYONE if my son couldn't be seen. I too didn't know where to go or what to do. Children's Mercy refered me to Responsive Centers about 2 years ago.

At Resposive Centers, Tyler and us as parents went through about a 4 week evaulation that had us in the office one on one with Dr. Coddington and Autism Specialist Jeanie Holverstott. In total we had probably 3 parent sessions and Tyler's testing had about 5 sessions as well as an in school evaluation with teachers and observations at recess, in class and in the lunch room. After that time we sat down for the diagnosis and they also gave us a report with strategies for the teachers and us at home. Jeanie can come to all meetings with the school to get them on the same page as the doctors and the report. They also give you the diagnosis and explain what you can do to help. My Tyler has made HUGE strides!

I have heard good things about UMKC also with a one month waiting period, which isn't too bad. Resposive centers got us in within the week. It can be VERY confusing on where to go and who to believe, but once you find someone that actually understands children on the spectrum, you finally feel like you are able to help your child. I still feel guilt for not getting Tyler help sooner, but all I can do now is focus on his future and the goals that we have set forward. A lot of your stress will disappear once you start to see a light helping to guide you and your child's teachers.

Call Responsive Centers and UMKC and ask some questions to see which one might be a good fit for you and your child. There maybe more places in KC, but I don't have first hand knowledge and wouldn't feel comfortable directing you. Perhaps someone else on here has other places that they like or could recomend? If you have any questions, please shoot away!

Oh, thank you so much for the advice. I have been all over the internet looking for places other than Children's Mercy (thats were i had the first diagnosis) to get her re-evaluated. Even her teacher in her Early childhood special ed. class agreed that i should get a second opinion. I will defenitly look into those places. Thanks so much.
